Air Jordan VI “Infrared” to make a return in 2014

Exciting news has come across the desk this evening — the confirmation of the Air Jordan VI’s (white/infrared colourway) return in 2014.

Air Jordan VI - White Infrared

Originally released during the NBA 1990-1991 season, the shoe played an integral role in the Chicago Bulls’, and Michael Jordan’s, first NBA title. Jordan also took home the NBA Scoring Title for that year, and the second of his five MVP awards.

The Air Jordan VI model is another classic for architect and designer Tinker Hatfield. It features a rubber tongue with two holes that allows the wearer to pull the shoes on with ease. The shoes revisit the Air Jordan V’s clear sole and lace lock design with a more streamline and form-fitting look.

Despite no confirmation yet, sources suggest this will be a 23rd Anniversary release, which has led to speculation as to whether or not the AJ VI will feature the original Nike Air logo on its heel instead of the new Jumpman logo.

2014 is set the be the year of the VI for Jordan Brand with this release in the first weeks of February. Get excited. We are!

Wear your sneakers… new Air Jordans to come

With countless sneaker fans around the world customising their own footwear designs and colourways with programs such as Photoshop, it’s baffling as to why the Jordan brand keeps releasing old colour combinations and styles.

In its ‘golden’ days, when the sneaker community was smaller and less established, you would have had to partake in hours of research if you wanted to find a pair of limited-run sneakers or vintage styles. It wasn’t uncommon to bid competitively on forums, or camp out through the night in front of retail stores before releases to get what you wanted. When you saw someone wearing a pair of Air Jordans in an original colourway, you knew that collector was serious, today it seems even the most dedicated fan base has been watered down with commercial cool.

No shoe enthusiast wants to believe that Jordan brand seems intent on flooding the shoe market with ‘re-retros’ and even ‘re-re-retros’ to stash more money in the bank, despite their claims of respect for the so-called ‘sneaker game’, but it’s become harder and harder to ignore.

One such example is the release of the 2013 version of the Air Jordan 5 ‘Grape’. After hunting for a decent unworn pair for years, I finally picked up a set of the first ‘retro’d’ editions in 2006, and haven’t worn them since. It’s a similar story for the Jordan 8 ‘Aqua’, which will be back in 2013, and the same goes for the Air Jordan 3 ‘True Blue’ edition, which was one of my most sought after and favourite shoes, and one which I have now lost count on how many times it’s hit shelves.

Jordan Brand seems to have a 5-6 year rule before releasing another retro design with less quality than the original. So if you’ve been holding onto old Jordans like I have, it’s probably best you start wearing them now, because soon you’ll be flooded with new versions of these classics.

Do you collect sneakers? What are your thoughts on the game? Share your comments below or on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

eBay Thanks You

In a series of short videos, online auction giant eBay shows their appreciation to members by sharing  stories that have made the shopping destination such a unique place.

eBay was originally founded as AuctionWeb in 1995, where one of the first items sold was a broken laser pointer for $14.83 USD! It’s now a multi-billion dollar business that’s set the benchmark for online auctions.

As a go-to source to find cheaper products and pre-loved items, eBay has been an integral part of success for small businesses such as Kingdom Ventures, Wheel and Sprocket, and Sonic Electronix. They’ve even helped the Michael J. Fox Foundation raise $4.7 million through the sale of the Nike Air Mag, and even reunited a man with his original Harley Davidson bike after 32 years of separation!

If you have a unique eBay experience or story, share it with us via the comments below — we’d love to hear! More success stories can be found on the eBay Thanks You page.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues teaser

The Channel 4 news team is back in the long-awaited movie Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Led by Will Ferrell, the sequel features Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Steve Carell for another round of crazy hijinks.

After its highly publicised announcement on Conan back in March, two teaser trailers have already aired and surprisingly screened ahead of Sacha Baron Cohen’s The Dictator.

There has been no details released on the plot or word as to whether Christina Applegate will reprise her role as Veronica Corningstone, but director Adam McKay has hinted that the story will focus on two things – a custody battle and ‘bowling for dollars’!

Although shooting has not begun, we expect to see Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues in cinemas in 2013.

MySpace to relaunch in 2012

The once most popular social media platform, MySpace is under reconstruction for a much-anticipated  relaunch in late 2012. It’s set to have a new focus on music and entertainment following its 2011 purchase by Specific Media and music star, Justin Timberlake. It was purchased by the duo for approximately $35 million from Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, who had originally bought the social media forum in 2005 for $580 million.

Specific Media’s senior communications manager for Europe, Rikki Webster says “MySpace will look to roll out consumer-facing activity towards the end of this year, at which time we’ll most likely undertake a formal pitch, but nothing is happening at this time.”

Between 2005 and 2008, MySpace was the most visited social networking site in the world, helping launch the careers of music artists such as Lily Allen and Sean Kingston. Its user numbers peaked at 73.6 million in October 2008 but have since dropped below 30 million.

“There’s a need for a place where fans can go to interact with their favorite entertainers, listen to music, watch videos, share and discover cool stuff and just connect. MySpace has the potential to be that place” said Timberlake last year.
