Air Jordan VI “Infrared” to make a return in 2014

Exciting news has come across the desk this evening — the confirmation of the Air Jordan VI’s (white/infrared colourway) return in 2014.

Air Jordan VI - White Infrared

Originally released during the NBA 1990-1991 season, the shoe played an integral role in the Chicago Bulls’, and Michael Jordan’s, first NBA title. Jordan also took home the NBA Scoring Title for that year, and the second of his five MVP awards.

The Air Jordan VI model is another classic for architect and designer Tinker Hatfield. It features a rubber tongue with two holes that allows the wearer to pull the shoes on with ease. The shoes revisit the Air Jordan V’s clear sole and lace lock design with a more streamline and form-fitting look.

Despite no confirmation yet, sources suggest this will be a 23rd Anniversary release, which has led to speculation as to whether or not the AJ VI will feature the original Nike Air logo on its heel instead of the new Jumpman logo.

2014 is set the be the year of the VI for Jordan Brand with this release in the first weeks of February. Get excited. We are!

Wear your sneakers… new Air Jordans to come

With countless sneaker fans around the world customising their own footwear designs and colourways with programs such as Photoshop, it’s baffling as to why the Jordan brand keeps releasing old colour combinations and styles.

In its ‘golden’ days, when the sneaker community was smaller and less established, you would have had to partake in hours of research if you wanted to find a pair of limited-run sneakers or vintage styles. It wasn’t uncommon to bid competitively on forums, or camp out through the night in front of retail stores before releases to get what you wanted. When you saw someone wearing a pair of Air Jordans in an original colourway, you knew that collector was serious, today it seems even the most dedicated fan base has been watered down with commercial cool.

No shoe enthusiast wants to believe that Jordan brand seems intent on flooding the shoe market with ‘re-retros’ and even ‘re-re-retros’ to stash more money in the bank, despite their claims of respect for the so-called ‘sneaker game’, but it’s become harder and harder to ignore.

One such example is the release of the 2013 version of the Air Jordan 5 ‘Grape’. After hunting for a decent unworn pair for years, I finally picked up a set of the first ‘retro’d’ editions in 2006, and haven’t worn them since. It’s a similar story for the Jordan 8 ‘Aqua’, which will be back in 2013, and the same goes for the Air Jordan 3 ‘True Blue’ edition, which was one of my most sought after and favourite shoes, and one which I have now lost count on how many times it’s hit shelves.

Jordan Brand seems to have a 5-6 year rule before releasing another retro design with less quality than the original. So if you’ve been holding onto old Jordans like I have, it’s probably best you start wearing them now, because soon you’ll be flooded with new versions of these classics.

Air Jordan XI Low – White/Varsity Red

It’s been over a decade since a new pair of patent leather Air Jordan XI in a low cut graced our presence, but now they’re back. The Air Jordan XI Low White/Varsity Red has been thrown in the middle of some highly anticipated releases.

Featuring traditional Chicago Bulls colour highlights, this classic white shoe comes wrapped in a pure white patent leather across the mid-section and toe cap.

The Air Jordan XI is the most popular model in the Air Jordan line and, with a clean-cut colourway like this, no one is expecting them to stay on the shelves for long.

The official release date is this Saturday May 5, but they can be found online earlier.

Air Jordan IV – Ultraviolet

Among all the Air Jordan releases this year, Jordan Brand will release yet another colourway of the AJ IV.

Featuring a neutral grey toe box, and purple highlights, Air Jordan fans will appreciate the traditional speckle print across the midsole. The Air Jordan IV ‘Ultraviolet’ will only come in GS sizes for grade schoolers or ladies, however, there is talk about a men’s version coming in June.

Although they’re set to drop April 21st, orders are being taken early online through Concepts.

Jordan X Converse 2012 Commemorative Pack

Before the Bulls, Michael Jordan had already made an impact in the world of basketball with a game winning shot that would seal a North Carolina national championship.

To celebrate 30 years since that moment, Converse and Jordan Brand have teamed up on a special commemorative pack. The pack includes a UNC jersey and a pair of Converse shoes both signed by MJ himself.

Only 30 limited edition packs will be sold via a special Ebay auction which begins today, with all proceeds going to the James R. Jordan Foundation.

AJ XII Playoff just around the corner

2012 is set to be a big year for the Jordan Brand with many of our favourite sneakers being retro’d, the next release being the Air Jordan XII ‘Playoff’ edition which is just around the corner.

The 2012 release alludes to the ’97 and ’04 versions with a finish in a similar texture on both the white guards and black leather upper.

The AJ XII was the first Air Jordan shoe to be released under JB as it moved into a new sub-brand of Nike. While some collectors are unhappy about the amount of re-retros from JB, we’re salivating at the prospect of a fresh pair of sneakers to add to the collection.

Although they’re set to drop mid to late April through retail stores, you can be sure to find them online a little earlier for those that can’t wait.
